Response of urinary bladder to cholinergic and adrenergic agents.

چکیده
The pharmacologic response of bladder muscle strip of albino rabbits was studied in vitro. The effect of cholinergic and adrenergic agents and their antagonists were demonstrated with a log dose-response curve. Cholinergic receptors were abundant in detrusor muscle. While the excitory alpha adrenergic receptors existed in bladder neck, the inhibitory beta adrenergic receptors were predominant in detrusor muscle. The role of cholinergic and adrenergic receptors in detrusor muscle and bladder neck was discussed.

[Efficacy of combination of Ea-0643 (bunazosin hydrochloride) and bethanechol chloride in patients with neurogenic bladder].
Bethanechol chloride, a cholinergic agent and bunazosin hydrochloride, an alpha adrenergic blocking agent were administered orally to 28 patients with neurogenic bladder due to peripheral nerve disorders. To compare the effect of the two drugs, one of the drugs was initially administered orally for 2 weeks, and then both of them were administered for the next 2 weeks. Since there were some sign...
متن کاملSelective changes in the α-adrenoceptor-mediated contraction in the senescent rat urinary bladder
The urinary bladder is innervated and functionally regulated by the autonomic nervous system. In order to elucidate the mechanism of functional changes in aged rat urinary bladder, we studied the influence of senescence on, 1) the α-adrenergic contractile response to phenylephrine in the urinary bladder body and trigone, 2) the muscarinic contractile response to carbachol in the body and trigon...
متن کاملNeuronally released acetylcholine acts on the M2 muscarinic receptor to oppose the relaxant effect of isoproterenol on cholinergic contractions in mouse urinary bladder.
We investigated whether M(2) muscarinic receptor activation opposes isoproterenol-induced relaxation in mouse urinary bladder and whether endogenous acetylcholine acts through a similar M(2) mechanism. When measured in urinary bladder from M(3) receptor knockout mice, the muscarinic agonist oxotremorine-M elicited only very weak contractions. In the presence of alpha,beta-methylene ATP (30 micr...
متن کاملThe influence of botulinum toxin type A (BTX) on the immunohistochemical characteristics of noradrenergic and cholinergic nerve fibers supplying the porcine urinary bladder wall.
Botulinum toxin (BTX) belongs to a family of neurotoxins which strongly influence the function of autonomic neurons supplying the urinary bladder. Accordingly, BTX has been used as an effective drug in experimental therapies of a range of neurogenic bladder disorders. However, there is no detailed information dealing with the influence of BTX on the morphological and chemical properties of nerv...
متن کاملThe potential of non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic targets in the treatment of interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.
Regulation of bladder function involves both divisions of the autonomic nervous system. However, in addition to the classical autonomic transmitters, noradrenaline and acetylcholine, other autonomic transmitters and other signalling components play important roles in physiology and pathophysiology of the lower urinary tract. Several substances of neuronal non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic (NANC) ...
